Best energy efficient tech for Jagananna housing: Official

Vijayawada/Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to employ world-class energy efficient technology for the beneficiaries of Jagananna Colonies-a massive housing programme for the urban and rural poor.

The colonies envisaged to provide decent dwellings will have all the basic amenities. This is one of the promises made at the time of elections by the YSRCP. Free houses form part of Navaratnalu (nine gems)-a pet scheme of the government.

Chief Secretary for Housing Ajay Jain during a telephonic review with officials said that the State Government is fully focusing to implement global energy efficiency measures in 28.3 lakh houses with the support of Indo-Swiss BEEP. He said that utilising energy efficient building designs in construction of houses is only an option for beneficiaries of housing schemes but not mandatory.

The energy efficient designs are expected to help to save 20 per cent energy houses, according to the government. Since the construction of over 28.3 lakh houses under Jagananna Colonies is the India's biggest

program, the Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has emphasised the need to maintain highest

quality of construction and adopt best practices available in the world for improving the living standard of beneficiaries, the Special CS said.

"The CM has strongly determined to provide own house to every poor family in the State. He does not want to provide just a shelter to poor but a safe, decent and affordable place to live that makes a real difference in the life of a family. He is highly determined to make the State number one in implementing weaker section housing programs in the country," Jain said.
